This fascinating little book allows some very fine authors to play, inventing identities to match the painted faces of unknown men and women in portraits spanning several centuries. Half of the fun comes in seeing the details that inspired the authors to choose which path to take - - murderer, or mistress, queen, or spy... It's a very little book, but beautifully produced - - and it would be a great gift for anyone who loves art, or mysteries, or just good writing.
